History
The rich heritage of this outstanding venue dates back to the very begining of Hard Rock's journey in music and entertainment. In 1971 two Americans, Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, opened an American style diner in an old Rolls Royce dealership on London's Park Lane, calling it 'Hard Rock Cafe.' The cafe was an immediate success and attracted an enviable clientele of locals, tourists and celebrities. Eric Clapton, was a regular to the cafe and so decided in 1979 to hang his guitar over his favourite bar stool to "mark his spot." Within a week, another guitar had arrived at the cafe with a note that stated, "Mine's as good as his! Love, Pete." Pete was, in fact, the one and only Pete Townshend, guitarist for The Who - and with that, the Hard Rock music memorabilia collection began.
Today the collection has over 80,000 pieces and is now the world's greatest collection of music memorabilia, displayed at its various locations around the globe. In 1973 Paul McCartney & Wings staged a pre-tour warm up concert at the cafe. Today, Hard Rocks around the world host over 15,000 live music events every year and the venues are famous for their on site musical entertainment.
In the 1970s the Seminole Tribe achieved remarkable success in the U.S when they became the first Indian Tribe to open high stakes bingo halls. Following on from this success, in 2004 the Seminole Tribe opened two Seminole Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos in Florida and in 2007 went on to acquire Hard Rock International. The Seminole Tribe today are heavily involved in the running of the company driving the business using a core set of principles based on authenticity, independence and care for the environment.
