Review

Palacio Estoril is one of Portugal's most distinctive glamorous hotels from the golden era. The palace is set by the elegant coast of Estoril, enjoying beautifully landscaped gardens and magnificent sea views, yet only within 20 minutes reach of Lisbon. Palacio Estoril event spaces are opulent and have staged significant international occasions. A vibrant sense of culture, amenities, entertainment, restaurants, the beach and one of the world's most renowned casinos are all a short stroll from the property. The palace has, of course, its own 18-hole championship golf course, a fully-equipped wellness centre and the award-winning Banyan Tree Spa.

Since the 1930s, Hotel Palacio Estoril has welcomed guests from four corners of the world. Splendid classical surroundings offer the height of elegance and comfort, distinguished by its renowned hospitality. Now, in the 21st century, the Palacio is completely renovated and up-to-date with modern facilities while managing to be welcoming and cosy, despite its rich heritage and classical grandeur.

Palacio Estoril offers 161 rooms, including 32 grand suites. It is an ideal venue for conferences, seminars, meetings and incentives with nine meeting rooms that benefit from daylight and capacity for up to 500 people. There are two restaurants, one bar, an outdoor swimming pool, banyan tree spa, thermal pool, gym and the 18-hole Estoril golf course. Palacio Estoril is quite simply a magnificent palace for spectacular events that require a sense of occasion.

History

Palacio Estoril was built in 1930 and has since been renovated, upgraded and renewed many times while retaining its timeless elegance, luxury and sophistication. During the Second World War, due to Portugal's neutrality, several royal families went into exile in Estoril, which became known as the "Coast of Kings". Palacio Estoril was the chosen home of numerous members of European royalty and was also the haunt of British and German spies, who could often be found in its bar. Later, these stories of intrigue and espionage inspired famous novelists and filmmakers leading to the Hotel serving as the set for the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service".

The venue has been referred to as the second home of the Spanish, Italian, French, Bulgarian and Romanian royal families. It continues to be frequented by their descendants. So in February 2011, the Royal Gallery was created in their honour, where photographs of the important visiting members of European royalty can be found. The Royal Gallery is now also one of Estoril's tourist attractions and the Palacio thrives as a prestigious venue for special events.
